I am a writer, editor, and consultant based in Washington D.C. I have nearly two decades of experience in media, ministry, and social justice work. I specialize in messaging for faith communities, but I enjoy telling all kinds of stories for all kinds of clients.
My STory
When I was 8 years old, my greatest aspiration in life was to move to Washington, D.C. and become a journalist like my hero, Murphy Brown (I was a precocious kid). Now, I know most kids probably dream about moving to New York City and pursuing journalism there, but I am a native New Yorker, and while I love my hometown, I wanted to have my own adventures (I didn’t realize that they’d be humid, nerdy, politically charged adventures).
After graduating summa cum laude from Queens College CUNY, I began my career at the New York Times Syndicate and honed my editing skills. I then went on to receive an MPA from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. I then decided to use my love of communication to help start and run a program to engage people outside the Christian faith at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City. There, I had many adventures in ministry, including co-founding a late-night prayer and worship event that was often standing-room only, managing the production of several short films about New Yorkers' faith, and helping to cast The Reason For God DVD study.
So far my career included journalism, adventures (of a kind), but I still hadn’t left the five boroughs.
When I was 30 years old, I finally moved to D.C., where I co-founded and edited an online literary magazine that featured daily essays, short-stories, and design from up-and-coming writers and illustrators (including three published authors, Mari Andrew, Micah Harris, and Stephanie Phillips). I eventually did get to pursue many humid, nerdy, and politically charged adventures, handling media relations for Sojourners and the ONE Campaign, as well as freelance communications and faith outreach. I have provided research and writing assistance to faith leaders across the political spectrum on issues ranging from immigration reform, poverty alleviation, and paid family leave. Oh and occasionally, I get to do my own writing as well.
So what’s your story?
